Vertebrate cells are typically grown in a defined basal medium containing 5-20% fetal bovine serum. Supplementation of a defined medium with serum can lead to infection of cells with adventitious agents found in the serum. In addition, interpretation of experimental results obtained from these culture systems may be complicated by growth factors, hormones, and other substances normally found in the serum. A completely defined chemical medium that does not require supplementation with serum offers the following advantages: guaranteed lot-to-lot consistency, consistently low levels of endotoxin, and freedom from adventitious agents.

MaxiCell™/Hybridoma-PF
Serum-Free and Protein-Free Media for Hybridoma Cell Culture

MaxiCell™/Hybridoma-PF is a product line of completely defined chemical media that are free of any proteins, peptides or animal-derived constituents. These products are specifically formulated to support the growth of hybridoma cell lines and for maximum production of monoclonal antibodies.

Since MaxiCell™/Hybridoma-PF media are protein-free and do not require supplementation with serum, they offer numerous advantages compared to classical media supplemented with serum and to serum-free media that still contain serum components such as insulin, transferrin and albumin.
MaxiCell™/Hybridoma-PF media are formulated with a bicarbonate-based buffering system requiring an atmosphere of 5-10% CO2 for optimal performance. HEPES may be added to the culture medium at a final concentration of 10-20mM to provide additional buffering capacity if required. MaxiCell™/Hybridoma-PF media are available as a convenient ready-to-use sterile liquid in PETE bottles. The MaxiCell™/Hybridoma-PF product line includes media with L-glutamine or with our stable L-glutamine substitutes, as well as a modification specifically formulated for Bioreactors.

All of our protein-free media can also be customized to meet your specific research needs.
